The APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) is a knowledge-based qualification that allows candidates to demonstrate knowledge of all elements of project management. Candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how these elements interact and how their project fits into their strategic and commercial environment. APM PMQ is a qualification recognised both nationally and internationally giving candidates a qualification that can be carried from one job to another across industry and sector boundaries.

The APM PMQ assesses breadth of knowledge in all areas of project management and covers 67 knowledge areas from the APM Body of Knowledge 7th edition including budgeting and cost management, conflict management, communication, earned value management, leadership, negotiation, procurement, sponsorship and teamwork.

The syllabus for the APM PMQ qualification is based upon the Body of Knowledge v7. It assesses the breadth of knowledge in all areas of project management from strategic and commercial implications, to technical, organisational and people management skills required to participate effectively in project management.   Candidates completing the course will be able to explain:

  • How organisations and projects are structured.
  • Project life cycles
  • The situational context of projects
  • Communication within project management
  • The principles of leadership and teamwork
  • Planning for success
  • Project scope management
  • Schedule and resource optimisation
  • Project procurement
  • Risk and issue management in the context of project management
  • Quality in the context of a project

Candidates will extensively practice sample examination questions and will be fully prepared to interpret and answer the written examination at the end of the course.

The APM Project Management Qualification exam is taken on-line (invigilated remotely) and is structured as follows:

  • The examination lasts for three-hours with an additional fifteen minutes of preparatory reading time.  Reasonable adjustments can be requested in certain circumstances;
  • Exam questions come in a variety of formats and generally require essay style answers to explain;
  • Each candidate will select and answer 10 questions from a possible 16 questions available
  • The candidate must achieve a score of at least 55% to pass the exam
  • Successful candidates will receive a digital badge to display on their business and social media accounts

For current PRINCE2® Registered Practitioners a two-hour paper that recognises prior learning may be chosen.  For further details please contact us at the address below.

This course is typically delivered as an intensive five-day tutor-led training event including the formal examination on the final day.  Other modular formats are also available on request.
