APM Publishes Chartered Project Professional Standard

Anyone who had been tracking the APM’s journey to Chartered status will be aware that the process was a long and sometimes painful one. This journey eventually paid off and resulted in the award of a Royal Charter from the Privy Council Office in January 2017 making APM the Chartered Body for the project profession.

The 30th November was also a significant date for the professional project manager community as the APM published its Standard for Chartered Project Professionals. The standard lays out the technical knowledge and professional practice (competent experience) required to meet the standard and become a Chartered Project Professional.

The standard lays out 3 “routes” to achieve ChPP status:

  • Route 1 – is intended for candidates who have already had their technical knowledge assessed to the required standard;
  • Route 2 – for candidates who have already had both their technical knowledge and professional practice assessed to the required standard;
  • Route 3 – for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria but who do not currently hold a recognised qualification.

The Chartered Project Professional gates are expected to open in April 2018 at the APM Conference and candidates will be considered shortly afterwards. Insynergi®’s view is that this will swiftly become the most effective way for serious project professionals to differentiate themselves and will finally give project delivery the same status as lawyers, accountants and other professional occupations.
